Award for young animal rights activists Application phase for Youth Animal Welfare Award launched Press release

Young animal rights activists can now apply for the Adolf Hempel Youth Animal Welfare Award of the German Animal Welfare Federation. The prize is endowed with 2,500 euros and honors projects by children and young people who are committed to animal welfare and implement their own ideas and projects. The closing date for applications is May 15, 2023.

"With this award, we want to honor young animal-loving people who stand up for animals and get creative, who ask critical questions and also take up uncomfortable topics to make us think," says Dr. Esther Müller, Head of the Academy for Animal Welfare of the German Animal Welfare Federation. "We experience time and again how much natural compassion children and young people show when they get involved in animal welfare. Their tenacity and great commitment is often impressive."

APPLYING ALONE OR IN A GROUP

Groups of children and young people with at least six people, for example school clubs, school classes or youth animal protection groups, as well as individuals, can apply. It does not matter whether the topic is pet keeping, agriculture, wild animal and species protection or animal testing. The work, projects and documentation can deal with all current animal welfare issues - the important thing is that the focus is on the protection of animals. Individuals can also be nominated by third parties. Persons up to the age of 20 are eligible to take part; a distinction is made between the age groups "up to 12 years" and "13 to 20 years". The jury is looking forward to receiving meaningful presentations of the projects: a description and descriptive material documenting the progress of the project. This could be pictures, videos or newspaper articles, for example.
