The German Animal Welfare Federation is a partner of the Paw Parade organized by Pedigree on 28 September and will be present with an information stand at Karo Beach in Hamburg. Dog owners who have adopted their four-legged friend or simply want to help raise awareness for shelter dogs are cordially invited to join the Paw Parade - the dog walk for a good cause - with or without their dog. Before and after the dog walk, there will be a supporting program for people and animals.

“No dog is immune from ending up in an animal shelter: Small and large, pedigree and mixed breeds. Animal shelters take in around 80,000 new dogs every year. Each shelter animal has its own story, each one is unique with its own character. And they are all eagerly waiting for a suitable home,” says Lea Schmitz, spokesperson for the German Animal Welfare Federation. “Together with dog owners and their four-legged friends, we want to show the whole of Hamburg what lovable dogs come from animal welfare and inspire other dog lovers to adopt a furry friend from the shelter,” adds Catarina Neumann, Director Corporate Affairs at Mars Pet Nutrition, the company behind the Pedigree brand.

For every participant in the Paw Parade who registers in advance via the website www.pedigree.de/pawparade, Pedigree will support the German Animal Welfare Association with 50 euros.* Among other things, the donation will benefit the member animal shelters of the German Animal Welfare Federation, which is an umbrella organization of around 550 shelters throughout Germany - including the animal shelter on Süderstraße of the Hamburg Animal Welfare Federation of 1841. At a joint information stand at Karo Beach, visitors to the Paw Parade can find out about the work of animal welfare organizations and register their dog free of charge with FINDEFIX, the pet register of the German Animal Welfare Association. The information stand is part of a colorful supporting program that starts at 12:30 pm at Karo Beach. The two-kilometer walk through Hamburg starts from there at 3:30 pm and ends back at the Beach Club. Participants with dogs should familiarize themselves with the “dog netiquette” on the website in advance. Among other things, dogs should be well socialized, compatible with other dogs and healthy.
