The German Animal Welfare Federation, the largest animal welfare umbrella organization in Germany and Europe, will be awarded the Karmetta Sponsorship Prize, endowed with 2,000 euros, in Cologne on September 20, 2024. Once a year, the foundation awards this prize to people, associations and clubs that show particular commitment and dedication to the welfare of animals.

“We are delighted to receive this great honor. We are active, committed and effective in animal welfare and are committed to the protection of every single animal. Receiving the award this year shows us that our work is appreciated; we are very grateful for this,” said Thomas Schröder, President of the German Animal Welfare Federation, who accepted the award at the ceremony in Cologne.

By awarding the prize, the Karmetta Foundation is recognizing the German Animal Welfare Federation`s many years of commitment to greater animal welfare - both at a political level and in direct contact with citizens. With targeted political and economic lobbying, the German Animal Welfare Federation has succeeded in influencing the social framework and legal basis for animal welfare in Germany and Europe and in achieving significant improvements for animals, according to the Karmetta Foundation. In addition to raising public awareness, Helga Oppermann, Chairwoman of the Karmetta Foundation, also refers to the practical animal welfare work that is established and strengthened by the association: “Animals in need require concrete and rapid help. This is why practical animal welfare work on the ground is particularly important. The German Animal Welfare Federation is also active in this area, supporting overburdened animal shelters and also helping street animals in other European countries.

The award ceremony will take place on September 20 from 5 p.m. in the Residenz am Dom. The Karmetta Foundation, whose primary goal is to promote charitable work for the benefit of people and animals, has been presenting the sponsorship award to exceptional organizations and projects since 2011.
